The Ministry of Science and ICT (“MSIT”; Minister Lee Jong-ho) announced that World IT Show (WIS) 2023, where visitors can see exhibitions of cutting-edge IT products and services and have hands-on experience, from April 19 (Wed) to 21 (Fri) at COEX, Seoul.
As digital technologies are taking root in people’s daily lives by sparking changes across economy, society and culture, this year’s WIS is held with theme of “Changing Our Life, K-Digital.”
WIS 2023 is composed of ▲Exhibition to showcase innovative digital products and services and ▲ImpaCT-ech Awards, WIS Awards, ICT Tech Commercialization Festival and ITRC Human Resource Development Festival to create a new growth driver.
This year, in particular, there is a growing global interest in K-digital, as evidenced by Korean companies winning the highest number of Innovation Awards at CES, the world’s largest consumer electronics exhibition. Diverse programs have been prepared to promote the excellence of Korean digital companies’ innovative products and services and support their overseas export.
WIS 2023 will feature an Export Strategy Meeting and Global ICT Trend Insight Conference, which will allow attendees to share information on the procedures to enter overseas market and overseas ICT trends in order to strengthen tech companies' capabilities for the global market. There will also be New Product & Technology Presentation session, a chance for businesses to promote themselves by demonstrating their products. A special exhibition hall, called Mingling Zone, is a new addition to the WIS, serving as a venue for promoting the outcomes from investing in promising startups and businesses to pitch for potential investment opportunities.
Other programs and side events include: i) the WIS 2023 Innovation Awards, aimed at encouraging the ICT businesses that developed innovative technologies, ii) ICT Tech Commercialization Festival 2023, intended to promote commercialization through transfer of information and ICT R&D achievements from lab to market, and iii) the University ICT Research Center Project (ITRC) Human Resource Development Festival 2023, which showcase outstanding achievements of ICT talent development projects.
Minister Lee said, “Considering how digital technologies have become an integral part of our daily lives, especially with the emergence of ChatGPT, the World IT Show is a very important platform that offers opportunities to promote digital innovation products and services to the general public, as digital technologies become increasingly ubiquitous all over the world.” He added, “The government plans to continue providing various policy support so that Korea can become an exemplary country for the world for its digital capabilities, and to support Korean businesses in the digital sector gain an upper hand in the global market.”
